Disney and Pixar are set to release their latest animated feature film, Elemental, on June 16, 2023. The film explores the developing relationship between two characters, Wade Ripple and Ember Lumen, who are made up of Water and Fire, living in Element City, a lively urban center. Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream, the film features a screenplay by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh with a story by Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel, and Hsueh, with Pete Docter serving as an executive producer. The film also features the voice talents of Ronnie del Carmen as Ember's soon-to-be-retired dad, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember's love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade's stormy and Air-Ball-loving boss, Gale; Catherine O'Hara as Wade's welcoming mom, Brook; Mason Wertheimer as Ember's admiring earth neighbor, Clod; and Joe Pera as an overgrown city bureaucrat, Fern.
Director Peter
Sohn's career in the film industry began at Pixar, where he worked in the art
and story departments for Finding Nemo. He went on to work as a story artist
for The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and WALL•E. Sohn's directorial debut came in
2009 with the short film Partly Cloudy, and he later directed The Good
Dinosaur. Alongside his directing work, he has provided the voices for several
characters in Pixar films, including Emile in Ratatouille, Squishy in Monsters
University, Forrest Woodbush in The Good Dinosaur, and more.
The film's screenplay is written by Brenda Hsueh, who started her career in television, working on a few seasons of How I Met Your Mother.
